Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been embroiled in controversy after a shocking incident in the Parliament on Thursday. The scuffle took place between Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, an elderly leader and Member of Parliament during which he received serious head injuries as he was pushed by Rahul Gandhi.

What Happened ?
The altercation took place near Parliament’s Makar Gate while BJP and Congress lawmakers hurled crude words at each other. But Pratap Sarangi said that Rahul Gandhi nudged another MP, who then fell and collided with him. It caused Sarangi to take a falling blow to the head.
“I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP who then fell on me. I fell and sustained a serious head injury,” Sarangi said while recounting the incident.
Doctors immediately rushed the MPs to RML Hospital where blood loss was confirmed to be ‘significant’. Sarangi needed multiple stitches to his injuries, and was put in the ICU for continual monitoring.
A Disrespectful Act Towards a Senior MP
The alleged actions of Rahul Gandhi have been criticized by many, and many say the behaviour has been a clear violation of parliamentary norms. Calling targeting an elderly MP known for his integrity and service reckless and disrespectful was not acceptable.
Senior leader from his late 70s associated with simplicity and very devoted towards public welfare, Pratap Sarangi is highly respected. To physically endanger such a figure is to effectively insult in person and, more importantly, to dishonour the democratic values that Parliament embodies.
The Fallout: Injuries and Political Reactions
The scuffle left two BJP MPs injured:
- Pratap Sarangi: Sustained deep head injuries requiring stitches. He remains under observation in the ICU.
- Mukesh Rajput: Experienced dizziness and high blood pressure following the incident and is receiving medical care.
The BJP has strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi’s behavior, demanding strict disciplinary action against him. “This act is a blatant violation of parliamentary decorum. Pushing an elderly MP shows a complete lack of respect and responsibility,” said a BJP spokesperson.
Public outrage has also been swift. Citizens have voiced their disapproval of Rahul Gandhi’s actions on social media, calling for accountability and stricter norms to ensure the safety of lawmakers.
